Almost similar to UK, I pass the chemistry National exam, I don't need to take the chemistry, until I transfer to UB.
Its a sheet outside, you alone standing there to read it. You will get told, and you show up where that sheet at. Alone, reading that sheet, you got in. It didn't happen that often, but I remember.
