You growing plants to try, or to imagine really edible?

How do you imagine that is edible, exactly? By small tiny pot the roots cannot go deeeeeeeeep under to web everywhere like, how width, how length, how big and wide, it will be my whole season looks like its not one meal I eating that? 

These are from the seed, not the plant itself, in case you cannot see how many re-planted, by a bag of the seed to Basil all coming out in that freezing cold Buffalo NY. California is better.

So let me try to re-phrase it.... How do you imagine that is edible, exactly?
